The big news of the week was the Budget, which delivered more money for NHS winter pressures, the next two years, capital investment, and a pay-rise for Agenda for Change staff; but still disappointed think-tanks and senior figures. The immediate reaction to Phil Hammond’s speech was that the NHS will now need a serious conversation with clinicians and patients over what it can do. However, Hammond himself told the Daily Mail that the health service should get on with delivering its own reform plans, as set out in the Five Year Forward View.
