As storm Caroline swept into the north of England and Scotland, the week’s healthcare news was dominated by debate about whether the NHS was ready for winter. An NHS Providers report confirmed that while it has done more planning than previously, it is still short of bed capacity, with many beds occupied by patients who could be discharged, if only care packages could be put in place.
