Healthcare Roundup 20 April 2018

A growing number of people around the world are living with multiple physical and mental conditions, often from a relatively young age, the Academy of Medical Sciences has warned. The Academy wants an agreed definition of multi-morbidity, and more research into the causes and clustering of conditions such as type 2 diabetes and depression, so more effective services, drugs and prevention services can be developed. In today’s NHS, Unison and the Health Service Journal have shown that the number of attacks on staff is rising, while the Public Accounts Committee has issued a report on the WannaCry attack that warns the health service is not moving fast enough to learn its lessons, and the British Medical Association has become the latest organisation to criticise NHS Digital for sharing patient information with the Home Office. Also, this week: if you are a healthcare tech company, how do you raise awareness of your great idea, service, or product? It’s a key question, and one that a well-planned PR and marketing campaign can help to address. Becky Mellor explains all in our latest blog.
