With the 70th anniversary of the NHS just two months away, think-tanks stepped up their inquiries into how it is coping. NHS Providers published a report looking at winter pressures that concluded more realistic projections of demand, more beds and more staff will be needed next year. While the King’s Fund published a report suggesting that more resources will be needed full stop, as the NHS now has some of the lowest funding, doctor and nurse numbers, and bed availability in the Western world. In the face of all this, health and social care secretary Jeremy Hunt promised that he was working on a ten-year plan to integrate health and social care, drive up efficiency, and get more technology into the system. Also this week: it’s one year on from the WannaCry ransomware attack, so we have been looking at its long-term impact on the NHS via a timeline of developments and expert commentary from Dr Saif Abed, one of the founding partners of Highland Marketing partner Abed Graham.
