With Parliament in recess and the holiday season underway, the Health Service Journal dug into one of the big stories to break before the break. The magazine asked experts how easy it would be to stockpile medicines and treatments against a hard-Brexit, as health and social care secretary Matt Hancock had told MPs he was planning to do. And the answer was – not easy, and very expensive. Ironically, NHS Improvement said this week that it’s ‘better value’ push on biosimilar and generic medicines had not impacted on patients, and it would be extending the initiative – in order to save money. In tech news, the Royal College of Public Health unveiled a #ScrollFree September campaign to encourage people to log-off social media or use less of it, particularly during social events and at night, in order to improve their sleep and mental health. And Northern Ireland announced plans for a patient portal, using Orion Health technology.
