Healthcare Roundup 7 December 2018

As Brexit turmoil in the government reached fever pitch, health and social care secretary Matt Hancock took time away from the Commons to deliver a speech on leadership in the NHS. Although the speech was focused on the need for better leadership training at all levels of the service, to support a culture of continuous improvement, Hancock said there was a need for trusts and staff to have better IT advice and skills. Against this background, he said all trusts should have a CIO on the board. Hancock was also able to announce this week that the 100,000 Genomes project had reached its target. NHS England announced that 13 trusts will receive money for e-prescribing from the fund announced by Hancock’s predecessor, Jeremy Hunt, earlier this year; with more to come in January. And NHSmail suffered a major failure.
