Healthcare Roundup 11 January 2019

As Brexit continued to consume the government, the launch of the NHS Long Term Plan consumed the health service, think-tanks and the health and tech media. The plan, launched on Monday, outlined how the NHS in England would spend its funding boost of £20.5 billion a year by 2023-24 on returning to financial balance, introducing integrated care services, and running new mental health and primary care programmes. The plan also included a technology chapter, outlining a “digital first” offer for patients, a new model for regional care records, and the “accelerated roll-out” of hospital electronic patient records. With the plan out, NHS England announced the new financial regime for trusts and CCG allocations, and digital chief Juliet Bauer announced that she was leaving for a provider of GP video consultations.
