The coronavirus “stay at home” instruction remained in place. The Office for National Statistics published a report on deaths from all causes in the first week of April that found it was the worst week for deaths since records began; but only a fifth of the excess deaths were attributed to Covid-19.
National newspapers and broadcasters caught up on NHSX’s plans to develop a contact tracing app; but security experts raised questions about its privacy implications and chances of success. Less controversially, trusts continued to roll-out health tech to manage Covid-19 patients and run services remotely.
