It was a week in which reports painted a varying picture of the state of the NHS. UK think-tank the Commonwealth Fund ranked the NHS top of eleven health systems it studied, but health secretary Jeremy Hunt and health inequalities expert Michael Marmot clashed over figures showing that life expectancy in the UK has stalled since 2010, when funding flatlined. The CQC also raised concerns about mental health services; but a mental health trust put out a big electronic patient record tender, and the government found some capital funding for sustainability and transformation plan projects.
