The NHS was pulled back into the political battle over Brexit at the start of the week, when foreign secretary Boris Johnson revived claims that leaving the EU would deliver a ‘dividend’ that could be spent on the health service, and other ministers defending existing spending plans. Meanwhile, the Health Service Journal uncovered evidence that money earmarked for NHS IT was being diverted to general pressures. NHS England launched a three-trust, £5 million global digital exemplar programme for ambulance services; and NHS Digital relaxed its rules on cloud and data offshoring services to encourage trusts to use them.
