The Conservative Party held its annual conference in Manchester, with a headline pledge to build 40 new hospitals. Media outlets soon established that just six trusts will receive money in the next five years; another 21 will get ‘seed funding’ for plans that will depend on general elections, Brexit, the economy, and tax policy.

Away from Manchester, there was a major shake-up for NHS IT in Wales. The NHS Wales Informatics Service will be replaced by a new body with an additional £50 million to spend.
