Healthcare Roundup 6 July 2018

The NHS turned 70, and the press used the occasion to look back over its past and celebrate its achievements. The anniversary itself was marked by church services, the blue-lighting of public buildings, and fund-raising tea parties. NHS England chief executive Simon Stevens also sent the service a message of congratulation, thanking its “brilliant” staff. Earlier in the week, however, the National Audit Office warned that the additional money that prime minister Theresa May has promised for the service will not be enough to do more than maintain current services, and the NHS Confederation launched a ten-point plan for a “national conversation” on the future of health and social care. In health IT news, NHS Digital signed major deals for a patient de-identification project and a boost to its cyber security operations, and there were some significant company changes as Advanced bought Docman and Orion Health sold its Rhapsody business.
