Health and social care secretary Matt Hancock launched a prevention strategy that was immediately criticised for being overly focused on personal responsibility and for failing to address funding issues. Official figures showed that NHS performance is continuing to decline; just as it should be picking up or stabilising in preparation for the winter. It was also revealed that the bill for diabetes prescription drugs has hit £1 billion a year. The Royal College of Physicians issued a report calling for a re-think of outpatients, focusing on increased use of technology. But the NHS Wales approach to rolling out electronic patient records and encouraging the uptake of IT services was criticised by AMs. In other health tech news, East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust went live with the Allscripts patient administration system and The Health Tech Newspaper unveiled its 2018 awards winners.
