The UK Covid-19 Inquiry will finally start public hearings next week and take witness statements on the UK’s “resilience and preparedness” to face a major public health crisis. British Medical Association announced that consultants will strike for two days in July if an ongoing ballot supports action – and the government doesn’t improve its pay offer first. Junior doctors are due to walk out for three days next week.

In other signs of strain, the Royal College of Radiologists warned there are staff shortages across cancer care. And ministers are going to try and get volunteers to support hospital discharge.
