Healthcare Roundup 9 September 2022

Liz Truss

It was all change in government, as Liz Truss became Conservative Party leader and prime minister, and Therese Coffey became deputy prime minister and health and social care secretary. Coffey set out her priorities as abcd: ambulances, backlog, care, doctors and nurses. But think-tanks pointed out she has a much bigger agenda as the Department of Health and Social Care’s fourth leader in 15 months.

Truss also unveiled plans for a cap on energy prices in the face of the cost of living crisis, which could have big public health impacts. And Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust went live with its electronic patient record, which is built around Epic.
